The 25th Hornbill Festival in Nagaland will feature Japan and Wales as partner countries, a collaboration aimed at enhancing cultural exchange and strengthening ties between the participating nations.
In a press release issued by the Nagaland government, it was confirmed that Japan’s involvement will include cultural performances, capacity-building initiatives, and workshops focused on handicrafts and bamboo products.
On the other hand, two Welsh artists are set to perform at one of India's largest music and cultural festivals.
Folk singer-songwriters Gareth Bonello and Mari Mathias have been selected to entertain audiences at the 2024 Hornbill Festival in Nagaland.
The announcement followed a meeting between Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Japanese Embassy officials.
These workshops will be conducted by Japanese resource persons, including master craftsmen and internationally renowned musicians.
Chief Minister Rio expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership on social media, stating, “Japan will participate in cultural & musical performances, & conduct workshops on handicrafts. I hope this will further strengthen ties.”
The meeting, which included Rio, his cabinet colleagues, and senior government officials, also saw the participation of Takashi Ariyoshi, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), and Mayumi Tsubakimoto, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy.
The discussions also highlighted the collaboration of Toyota, a major Japanese corporation, with the Nagaland Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA).
The press release further noted that both sides exchanged pleasantries, expressing their appreciation for the partnership and optimism that it would contribute to fostering closer ties and long-term cooperation between Japan and India.
