Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday expressed grief over the death of renowned shooter Jaspal Rana, describing it as an irreparable loss to the sporting community.
In a message shared on Facebook, Dhami said the passing of the Padma Shri awardee and proud son of Uttarakhand was a great loss not only for the state but also for the country.
"The news of the sudden demise of Shri Jaspal Rana ji, the pride of the Indian shooting world, is extremely painful," Dhami said.
Remembering his achievements, Dhami said Rana made a remarkable contribution to Indian shooting and inspired countless young athletes through his success. He added that Rana's accomplishments brought glory to the nation at international events.
Dhami said Rana's dedication, achievements and legacy would continue to motivate future generations.
Jaspal Rana, one of India's most accomplished pistol shooters, later became a successful coach and played a key role in guiding Manu Bhaker to her historic twin bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. He passed away after battling cardiac-related health complications.
