Bihar's former Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Friday accused the JD(U)-BJP alliance ruling the state of having "conspired" to "kill" her son Tejashwi Yadav in view of assembly elections. Speaking to the media, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council also asserted that there have been bids made on the life of the young leader earlier, "at least two, three or four times".

Rabri Devi was asked about incidents in the assembly yesterday, when some members of the ruling party had charged at Yadav, who is the leader of opposition in the lower house.

The affectionate mother replied, "There is an attempt on the life of Tejashwi." So many murders are happening in Bihar, let there be one more. Who else, but the Janata Dal (United)-BJP is behind this plot. They want him eliminated so that he is not there to contest against them in elections."

She further stated, "There have been previous attempts on Tejashwi's life, around two, three or four times. Once a truck had attempted to hit his car."

Yadav, a former Deputy CM, is likely to spearhead the INDIA bloc in the upcoming elections.

Rabri Devi was questioned about the tantrums, within the House, of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who had objected to opposition members arriving in black attire, as a sign of protest against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The homemaking politician retorted, "Nitish Kumar is provoked by black attire like a bull by red colour. What did we do wrongly in the House? The proceedings have been videotaped. School children were in the viewers' gallery. I challenge the government to show any impropriety on our part." The previous CM had come to the House on the last day of the monsoon session, determined to keep the government on the mat.

She had previously organised a protest demonstration, which was joined by other opposition MLCs, outside Vidhan Parishad gate. Chants of slogans against the special intensive revision and actions of NDA leaders in the assembly on the previous day were raised.

The RJD leader was irritated when reporters asked her to comment on the allegation of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who on Thursday had laid the responsibility of chaos within the assembly squarely on opposition MLAs headed by Tejashwi Yadav.

She retorted, "Do not ask me about Samrat Choudhary. I know him since he was a child. He has been a goon and used to harass girls in Boring Road locality of the city. Let us not talk much about those in the JD(U)-Bharatiya Janata Party combine. They are like vermin (naali ke keede)."

Choudhary, a one-time state president of the BJP, had started his political journey in the 1990s as a minister in Rabri Devi's cabinet.

When another Deputy CM and veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha was questioned regarding Rabri Devi's ranting, he replied in a sarcastic tone, "The Rashtriya Janata Dal is identified with jungle raj and, hence, they have such good knowledge of who is a goon and who is not."

"We, in the BJP, believe in bringing along all people in the larger interests of the society and reforming those who could have gone astray earlier. Regarding the nature of language employed by her, one cannot expect anything from the people of the RJD," said Sinha.

When senior JD(U) leader and minister Ashok Choudhary was queried on Rabri Devi's fulminations, he replied, "She should be ashamed of using such bad language. I would pray to God that she gets good sense (sadbuddhi)."
