The political temperature rose in the Jharkhand Assembly on Friday as BJP and NDA legislators staged a protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
As soon as the second day of Monsoon session began, BJP legislators raised slogans and came to the well of the House. Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto adjourned the House proceedings till 12:30 PM.
However, even after 12:30 the House could not function due to opposition’s protest and eventually the Speaker had to adjourn the House proceedings till Monday, 10 August.
The opposition said the demonstration was aimed at seeking justice for lakhs of aspirants who have been demanding a fair and transparent recruitment process.
Holding placards bearing the words "TAX INVOICE", the protesting MLAs raised slogans against the state government, alleging that government jobs were being sold according to a fixed "rate chart" rather than being awarded on merit.
The BJP accused the Hemant Soren-led government of failing to ensure transparency in recruitment and alleged large-scale corruption in the selection process. The party claimed that deserving candidates had been deprived of employment opportunities due to the alleged irregularities.
The NDA legislators placed three key demands before the government. They sought a high-level CBI inquiry into the alleged recruitment scam, immediate cancellation of all disputed recruitment examinations followed by fresh examinations through a transparent process, and the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, holding him morally accountable for the alleged corruption.
The BJP also demanded a comprehensive investigation into all government recruitments carried out during the past six years under the current government. It urged the authorities to cancel appointments found to be irregular and take strict action against officials allegedly involved, including dismissal from service and prosecution.
Reiterating its support for job aspirants, the BJP said it would continue to raise the issue both inside and outside the Assembly until candidates receive justice and accountability is ensured in the recruitment process.
