A couple of hours after winning the trust vote in the Jharkhand Assembly Chief Minister Hemant Soren got 11 ministers in his Cabinet as six ministers from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, four from Congress and one from RJD were sworn in at Raj Bhawan on Monday.

Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers of the State at Raj Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, MPs, MLAs, senior administrative officials and political figures of the State.

The new ministers of the JMM quota included former CM Champai Soren, former minister Mithilesh Thakur, former minister Baby Devi, former minister Deepak Biruwa, former minister Hafizul Hassan and former minister Baidyanath Ram.

From the Congress party former minister Dr Rameshwar Oraon, former Minister Banna Gupta, Irfan Ansari and Deepika Pandey Singh were sworn in as ministers.

Rashtriya Janata Dal’s lone MLA Satyanand Bhokta was sworn in for the third time as a minister in the coalition government.

Notably, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s younger brother Basant Soren, who was part of the Champai Soren Cabinet was not included in the list. Former Agriculture Minister Badal was also dropped from the Cabinet this time.

Out of the 11 ministers, only Deepika Pandey Singh and Irfan Ansari are first-time ministers. Dr Rameshwar Oraon, a former IPS officer and former ST commission chairman along with Champai Soren, Mithilesh Thakur, Banna Gupta and Satyanand Bhokta have remained part of Hemant Soren government and Champai Soren government earlier.

Hafizul Hassan, son of the Late Hazi Hussain Ansari, was appointed minister in the erstwhile Hemant government after his father passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, Baby Devi, wife of former minister Late Jagarnath Mahto, was appointed minister after her husband died due to post-Covid complications.

Notably, this is the first time after 9 years that Jharkhand has 12 ministers in Cabinet including the Chief Minister.

During the Raghubar Das government, the post of 12th minister remained vacant for five years. Also, during Hemant Soren’s stint between December 2019 and January 2024 and Champai Soren’s government, the post of 12th minister remained vacant.
