Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Wednesday to finalise the seat-sharing formula for upcoming Assembly elections in the State.

A meeting was held in Delhi in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, the party's National General Secretary KC Venugopal and Jharkhand MLA Kalpana Soren over the seat-sharing deal.

Sources said that there was a tussle between Congress and JMM over certain seats, about which the leaders held discussions and said that the alliance would contest the elections together in Jharkhand.

Sources said that the debacle of Congress in the Haryana elections was also discussed in the meeting and it was said that taking lessons from the Haryana results, INDI Alliance will contest the elections strongly so that this does not happen in Jharkhand.

Reportedly, this time the Congress has demanded 33 seats. Soren is said to have convinced the Congress leaders that it is more important to ensure the win of the INDI Alliance than the individuals and parties, who will contest the elections.

Top Congress leaders are also said to have agreed on the view. It was said that the state leaders would have an in-depth discussion on this before the finalisation of the seats.

Notably, two other allies of INDI Alliance, RJD and CPI (ML), also have to be kept happy and satisfied in the seat-sharing deal.
