Defying widespread speculations, 1994-batch IPS officer Tadasha Mishra has been named as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand.
The Home, Prisons, and Disaster Management Department issued a formal notification announcing her appointment late Thursday night. Mishra, a Jharkhand-cadre officer, succeeds Anurag Gupta, whose resignation was accepted by the state government earlier this week.
Her appointment comes amid strong buzz surrounding other contenders for the top post — 1992-batch officers Anil Palta and Prashant Singh, and 1993-batch officer MS Bhatia.
However, Mishra’s elevation is being viewed as a temporary arrangement, given that she is set to retire in December and does not fulfil the Supreme Court’s requirement of at least six months of remaining service for a full-term DGP appointment.
Before this posting, Mishra served as Additional Director General (ADG) of Railways and was recently designated Special Secretary in the same Home Department.
Over her long policing career, she has held several significant positions, including ADG of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and ADG (Railways). Her new role marks the culmination of a distinguished service record, even as the state readies to recommend a full-time DGP in line with UPSC norms.
