The Jharkhand government has ordered an immediate and comprehensive safety audit of all bars, restaurants, hotels and hospitals across the state, directing district officials to submit their reports within seven days. The move follows the devastating fire late Saturday night at a restaurant-cum-nightclub in Goa’s Arpora area, which claimed 25 lives — including three young men from Jharkhand who had recently migrated to Goa for work.
The victims from Jharkhand have been identified as Pradeep Mahato (24), a resident of Fatehpur village, Lapung block, Ranchi, Vinod Mahato (22), also from Fatehpur village, and Mohit Munda (22), from Govindpur village in Karra block, Khunti district.
According to Narayan Mathur, a relative of the deceased, two of the victims were his nephews. All three were working as cooks in the nightclub and were inside the kitchen when the fire broke out.
“We received the information this morning. A neighbour also died in the same incident. The boys had recently gone to Goa in search of employment and were working together at the nightclub,” he said.
Health and Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari said the government would not tolerate any negligence when it comes to public safety. “If an incident like Goa happens in Jharkhand, officials will be held accountable,” he stated.
Ansari emphasised that all establishments must strictly maintain kitchen hygiene, conduct regular technical inspections of gas pipelines, burners and chimneys, and ensure that fire-safety equipment and emergency exits remain fully functional.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said he stands with the bereaved families in their moment of grief and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
The Health Minister added that he would speak to the Chief Minister to ensure adequate state-level assistance for the families of the victims from Jharkhand.
