The Jharkhand Government on Monday raised the honorarium amount for women aged between 18-50 years of age to Rs 2500 every month under the ‘Maiyan Samman Yojna’. The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday.

The decision was taken soon after the BJP announced to launch ‘Go Go Didi’ yojna in the State if it came to power after the elections. Under the ‘Go Go Didi’ scheme the BJP promised to give Rs 2100 honorarium to women in the State.

Notably, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had strongly objected to the BJP starting registrations for ‘Go Go Didi Yojna’ claiming that it was in violation of the Election Commission directives.

The party had even sought permission from the Election Commission of India to launch another scheme named ‘JMM Samman Yojna’ in Jharkhand ahead of the Assembly elections.

It had submitted a memorandum to the commission saying that the BJP’s ‘Go Go Didi’ scheme violates the directions of the ECI. It further sought permission from the commission to launch the ‘JMM Samman Yojna’ if the ‘Go Go Didi’ scheme is legitimate in the eyes of the commission.

Under the scheme, JMM had claimed that on the first day of every month, Rs 2500 will be sent to the accounts of women and Rs 30,000 will be given every year.

Earlier, JMM had demanded action against those involved in the registration of the ‘Go Go Didi’ scheme from the Chief Minister, who had directed Deputy Commissioners of all districts to take action and lodge FIRs against those involved in violating the ECI directives.

However, challenging the CM’s order, BJP State President Babulal Marandi helped women fill out the forms.

Notably, the JMM-Congress coalition government launched the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana in August this year and it has sent three instalments of Rs 1000 each to over 45 lakh women in the State under the scheme.

Seeing the impact of this scheme on women voters, the BJP promised to increase the amount of Rs 1000 given under the Mainiya Samman Yojana to Rs 2100 and talked about starting the ‘Gogo Didi Yojana’ in its manifesto after forming its government in Jharkhand and started getting forms filled for this.

However, the JMM-led government set aside its plan to launch ‘JMM Samman Yojna’ and increased the honorarium of ‘Maiyan Samman Yojna’ instead.
