Jharkhand Govt seeks Centre’s help in constables’ death case

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren today said that his government has asked for help from the Union Health Ministry on the issue of mysterious deaths of Excise Constable Aspirants in the last few days in the State.

“For the first time after COVID-19, the physical efficiency test of the candidates is being conducted under the Jharkhand Excise Constable Competition Examination.

The death of some youth during the physical efficiency test is very sad and worrisome. It is very important to know the reasons for this. Our government is trying to get to the bottom of the death of the youth.

In this regard, a letter has also been sent to the Union Health Ministry for help,” he said.

The CM was addressing an appointment letter distribution ceremony organised here on Friday.

“We have written to the Union Health Minister that during the recruitment process of excise constables such deaths have taken place, which have shocked us to the core. Normally, this doesn’t happen,” said Soren.

“We have said that we will get to the core of the matter because the youth of Jharkhand cannot be so weak who cannot run for 5-10 kilometres,” he added.

Soren said that they need to be fully assured of the reasons for such tragic deaths as many other vacancies would soon be created in the State, in which physical endurance tests will be conducted.

Notably, more than 14 aspirants appearing for the physical tests for Excise Constable Recruitment have lost their lives in Jharkhand in the past two months.

The State government has set up an inquiry committee, but till now no concrete reason has been found behind the deaths.
