The Jharkhand High Court today expressed strong disapproval of the Central Government's failure to file an affidavit on the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators.
The court questioned whether the government would only take action after infiltrators have already entered the country, emphasising the need for strict vigilance by the Border Security Force (BSF) given the current political instability in Bangladesh.
The court indicated that if necessary, the Union Home Secretary might be summoned for an explanation, as national security is at stake.
The court ordered immediate action to identify and expel infiltrators, criticising the state government for not complying with its directive to file reports from the Deputy Commissioners of six districts.
It was noted that Bangladeshi intruders in the Santhal Pargana region have been making fake Aadhaar and voter cards, marrying local tribal girls, and occupying their land.
The court issued notices to several high-ranking officials, including the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the Director General of the BSF, the Chief Election Commissioner, and the Director General of the Unique Identification Authority of India, demanding their responses.
A sealed report from the Intelligence Bureau has also been requested. The next hearing is scheduled for August 22.
