The INDIA alliance today unveiled its seat-sharing arrangement during a press conference held at the Chief Minister's residence in Ranchi.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that candidates from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress, representing the INDIA alliance, will contest 70 seats in the upcoming state elections.
He further stated that the remaining assembly seats will be contested by other allies of the INDIA bloc.
According to sources, JMM will field candidates in 41 of the 70 seats, while Congress will contest 29.
The two other key partners in the INDIA alliance in Jharkhand, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI(ML)], will contest the remaining 11 seats.
Soren emphasised the seriousness with which the INDIA alliance is approaching this election, considering all aspects carefully before deciding their course of action.
“One of our allies is joining this alliance, and the Left party will also play a role. In this phase, JMM and Congress candidates of the INDIA alliance will contest 70 seats in the state, and our allies will contest the remaining seats,” Soren said.
He added that the specifics of which candidates will contest from each constituency will be finalised in the coming days, hinting that the first list of Congress and JMM candidates will be announced soon.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also in Ranchi to attend a meeting of the alliance. A clearer picture of the seat-sharing formula is expected to emerge after his visit.
Notably, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) revealed its seat-sharing formula on October 18, allocating 68 seats to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 10 to the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party, two to Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and one to the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(R)] out of the total 81 seats.
