The Governing Council of Jharkhand's biggest medical college and hospital, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), has terminated Dr. Raj Kumar’s appointment as director of the institute, effective immediately.

Dr. Kumar, who had formerly served as a neurosurgery professor at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, had assumed the role on January 31, 2024, for a three-year tenure.

The State Health Department on Thursday cited dissatisfaction with Dr. Kumar's performance, stating he failed to follow official directives.

The statement pointed to ongoing negligence, disregard for instructions, and intentional delays in departmental responsibilities as reasons for his dismissal.

It mentioned that during a recent Governing Council review, the Health Minister was taken aback by the department’s condition.

It was observed that progress was sluggish, orders were being ignored, and senior officials were indifferent.

“Major concerns were raised regarding Dr. Raj Kumar’s functioning as Director,” said Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari.

“He not only disregarded the instructions from the Council of Ministers, the Governing Council, and the department, but also evaded accountability,” he added.

"No one, regardless of their position, will be exempt from consequences if they underperform. I haven’t taken up this post just for the title—I’m here to ensure results,” he asserted.

“Those who perform well will be acknowledged, but anyone who withholds information or hinders the system will face strict action,” said Ansari.
