Jharkhand is experiencing severe weather conditions, with temperatures nearing a 46-year high.
Although Cyclone Ramal initially brought some respite, temperatures have soared by 3 to 8 degrees Celsius across all districts in the past 24 hours.
Palamu division bore the brunt of the heat, recording a staggering 47.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
This is the second highest temperature for May in 46 years, only slightly lower than the 47.8 degrees recorded on May 6, 1978.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heat waves across Jharkhand, with Chatra, Palamu, and Garhwa facing the highest risk.
The capital city, Ranchi, recorded a temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, marking the second time in May that temperatures have surpassed 40 degrees.
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued regarding heat wave in the northwestern part of the state on May 31.
On the same day, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and strong winds in some places in the eastern part of the state.
Similar situation may prevail on June 1 as well. Wind speeds during this period could range between 30 and 40 km per hour.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat, with the Meteorological Department warning of the health risks associated with such high temperatures.
