The marathon will feature three race categories — 23 km, 10 km, and 5 km — with the start and finish point at the picturesque Koel View Point.

In a landmark initiative aimed at promoting sports tourism and environmental awareness, Jharkhand is set to host its first-ever Hill Marathon at Netarhat on January 25, coinciding with National Tourism Day.

The event marks a significant step towards positioning the scenic hill station as an emerging destination for adventure and sports-based tourism.

The Netarhat Hill Marathon seeks to blend fitness, tourism, and environmental conservation. Alongside the marathon, a plantation drive will be organised to spread awareness about forest conservation under the theme “Save Trees, Save Forests.”

Organisers said the initiative is designed to encourage responsible tourism while fostering public awareness about environmental protection.

The marathon will feature three race categories — 23 km, 10 km, and 5 km — with the start and finish point at the picturesque Koel View Point.

The route will pass through prominent locations including Netarhat Bazaar, Netarhat International School, and Magnolia Sunset Point, offering runners a rare opportunity to experience the region’s lush green landscapes and challenging hilly terrain.

Emphasising community participation, the organisers have announced free registration for 50 participants from economically weaker sections.

The move aims to promote inclusivity and encourage local youth and residents to engage with marathon culture and sporting activities.

The event is being managed by Real Sports India, Kolkata, a sports tourism management organisation with experience in hosting major sporting events across the country.

Support for the marathon is being extended by the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India (Eastern Regional Office), Latehar Tourism, and the Netarhat Hotel Association.

Organisers believe the Hill Marathon will provide a boost to tourism, generate livelihood opportunities for local youth, and strengthen the regional economy.

With its focus on health, sustainability, and community involvement, the Netarhat Hill Marathon is expected to set a new benchmark for sports tourism initiatives in the state.
