The Jharkhand government will soon ensure that every police station in the state is staffed with women police officers.
Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta announced that this initiative aims to empower women and make police stations more welcoming for female citizens.
Gupta stated that having a woman police officer present will encourage women to report their issues without hesitation. “With a woman officer on duty, no woman will be reluctant to share her problems. They will be able to speak openly,” he said.
Additionally, a women's forum will be established for women officers of all ranks within the Jharkhand police service, allowing them to address both personal and professional concerns.
To further build confidence among women, a two-day state-level conference of women police officers will be held on August 23 and 24, 2024.
The state’s Home and Prisons Department has also recently launched a pilot project for the Dial 112 QR Code in Ranchi.
DIG Anoop Birathre reported that the service helps people register complaints and seek assistance for police, fire brigade, women’s helplines, medical emergencies, and other urgent needs.
According to the police department, the Dial 112 QR code is receiving a positive response for enhancing women’s safety and public assistance in the state.
