Markets in Srinagar witnessed a massive rush ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha as preparations for the most important festival in the Islamic calendar gained momentum.
Shoppers were seen thronging local markets, bakery shops, and eateries. With pleasant weather conditions prevailing across the Union Territory, tourists are also getting a glimpse into the region’s cultural and festive environment.
In this regard, security arrangements have been tightened across critical places in the city, especially around the busy Lal Chowk area.
The Jammu and Kashmir Administration is reviewing arrangements for both Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Fazlul Haseeb chaired a review meeting at the SMC headquarters in Karan Nagar to finalise arrangements for Eid across Srinagar city.
From the security point of view, another high-level meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi at PCR Kashmir to assess preparedness for the upcoming festivals and the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY).
The meeting was attended by DIGs of IR Kashmir, CKR Srinagar, Traffic Kashmir, SKR Anantnag, and Armed Kashmir; all district SSPs of Kashmir Zone (including PDs); SO to IGP Kashmir; SSP PCR Kashmir; SSPs of Traffic Rural Kashmir, Special Crime Wing Kashmir, CID SB Kashmir, APCR Kashmir, Telecom Kashmir, CO SDRF 1st Bn Kashmir, SP Cargo Srinagar, Addl SP Security Kashmir, and other senior officers.
During the meeting, district SSPs gave detailed presentations regarding security preparedness, deployment plans, traffic regulation, crowd management measures, and other logistical arrangements concerning Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
