Hundreds of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) workers and supporters convened at Ranchi's Morabadi ground on Wednesday, protesting against the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) questioning of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with an alleged money laundering case linked to land deals.
Brandishing party banners, posters, and traditional bows and arrows, the supporters asserted that the CM is being unfairly targeted by the BJP-led central government, attributing it to his tribal identity.
Jharna Pal, a JMM leader from Jamshedpur, expressed, "Hemant Soren is being targeted because he is a tribal. But, he is like a god to us. We can go to any extent for him. If he (CM) goes to jail, we will also go with him."
The supporters made their stand clear, highlighting the significance of Soren's tribal identity and their unwavering support.
Amid prohibitory orders within a 100-metre radius at key locations, including the CM's residence, the protest was strategically organised at the Morabadi ground, a few kilometres away.
Umesh Thakur from Hazaribagh district voiced concern over the perceived harassment of the chief minister despite his cooperation with the ED. He questioned the repeated summoning within a week, characterising it as a deliberate attempt to tarnish Soren's image and the government.
Taufiq Alam from Ramgarh emphasised a belief in a BJP conspiracy to destabilise the government, pledging resistance. He stated, "If anything happens to the chief minister, Jharkhand will see an intensive agitation."
