Police have launched an investigation after a journalist was attacked for objecting to people allegedly drinking alcohol inside an anganwadi centre in Indore. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Sagar Choukse, a local correspondent for a national English newspaper, returned home and found several individuals consuming alcohol inside the facility near his residence.
Choukse confronted the group, pointing out that the centre was intended for young children, and pregnant and lactating mothers. In response, the individuals allegedly began verbally abusing him and demanded money for more alcohol. When Choukse refused, the group reportedly assaulted him, and one of the men allegedly attempted to attack him with a large knife. The commotion attracted neighbours, causing the group to flee after threatening to kill Choukse.
