The Supreme Court Collegium, during its meeting on August 6, recommended the appointment of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where he currently serves as acting Chief Justice.
Justice Mishra completed his BA (Honours) in Economics at Kirori Mal College before earning his law degree from the Campus Law Centre at Delhi University. Enrolled as an advocate on May 8, 1993, his practice focused primarily on civil, constitutional, and service matters. Over his legal career, he represented key statutory entities — including NOIDA, the Ghaziabad Development Authority, the Allahabad Development Authority, IFFCO, Indian Oil Corporation, and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation — and acted as senior counsel for the state government in several high-profile cases.
He was designated Senior Advocate in 2013 and appointed as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court on February 3, 2014, becoming a permanent judge on February 1, 2016. After serving at the Allahabad High Court until 20 July 2025, he transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court the following day. He assumed the role of acting Chief Justice on 1 June 2026, following the elevation of former Chief Justice Sheel Nagu to the Supreme Court.
