Karnataka Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna recommended Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as the best possible replacement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, if he resigns on reaching the age of 75 years. The legislator made the comment following RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent remarks about leaders retiring at the age of 75.
While attending an event at Nagpur on Wednesday, RSS chief Bhagwat quoted the statement of Sangh ideologue, late Moropant Pingley about relinquishing power after 75 years of age. "Gadkari must be the Prime Minister of this country; the reason is Gadkari is with the common man. He has worked well for the development of the country, highways and all. The countrymen know his service and the type of person he is," said Gopalakrishna.
Addressing reporters here on Saturday, he quoted a statement reportedly made by Gadkari expressing concern for the poor of the nation and stating that the rich were becoming richer.

"Given this, it seems that he has an idea (for the nation's development) and such individuals should be made (the PM). Mohan Bhagwat has stated that the ones who have reached 75 years of age will have to retire; therefore I believe that time has arrived for Gadkari," he further added.
Alleging that veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader BS Yediyurappa had been forced to step down as chief minister of Karnataka, after he attained the age of 75, the Congress MLA stated none of his party leaders are discussing Modi.
"BJP sinners made him (Yediyurappa) step down with tears in his eyes. He was an old-time leader who constructed BJP and took it to power in the state. Why different treatment to Modi ji? Wasn't it due to Modi's order Yediyurappa was asked to resign? Mohan Bhagwat has also spoken the same words that one should not remain in power after the age of 75 and opportunity should be provided to others, therefore I feel Gadkari will be bestowed," he said.
