In a new incident that has sparked controversy in Karnataka, another student was allegedly forced to remove his janivara (sacred thread) before entering an exam hall for the Common Entrance Test (CET).
The incident occurred in Shivamogga, just a day after two home guards were suspended for a similar act.
The student, identified as Partha Rao, recounted the disturbing experience where a uniformed person, later identified as Vikas, forced him to remove his janivara. Rao claims the individual not only made him take it off but also cut it and discarded it in a dustbin.
After completing his exam, Rao retrieved his sacred thread from the bin and displayed it as evidence of the incident.
In response, members of the Brahmin community, who regard the janivara as a significant religious symbol, approached local police and filed a formal complaint against the accused guard. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on April 16, when two home guards were suspended after allegedly forcing two students to remove their janivara at a CET examination center in Shivamogga.
The students were stopped at the entrance of the Aadichunchanagiri Independent PU College in Sharavathinagara, and although one student complied, the other protested.
Faculty members intervened, allowing the students to enter the exam hall and instructing the guards not to challenge candidates over religious symbols. CCTV footage later confirmed the misconduct by the home guards, leading to their suspension.
