BJP MP from Mandi and Bollywood actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has expressed deep sorrow over the large-scale devastation caused by persistent rains and flash floods in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.

In a post on her social media platform X on Friday, the Mandi MP said she wanted to visit areas affected by continues rains in Mandi, including Seraj, but was advised by senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur to delay her visit due to poor road connectivity and safety concerns.

“It is heartbreaking to see massive flood devastation in Himachal almost every year now. I tried reaching flood-affected areas in Seraj and other parts of Mandi but was advised by respected leader of opposition Shri @jairamthakurbjp ji to wait until access is restored. A red alert has been issued today by Mandi DC as well. Awaiting official clearance; I will be there as soon as possible,” Ranaut wrote.

Her post has drawn mixed reactions online — while some appreciated her concern, others responded with sarcasm, asking whether Jai Ram Thakur also advised her against tweeting about the situation.

Meanwhile, the state continues to reel under the impact of severe weather. Days of heavy rainfall have triggered multiple cloudbursts across Himachal, damaging homes, washing away vehicles, and cutting off entire villages.

“Everything got washed away after the cloudburst. We are now staying with relatives,” said a local resident who lost their home in the floods.

Figures from the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and the Revenue Department suggest that at least 43 people have died so far, and damage to public and private property has crossed ₹400 crore. However, officials believe the actual numbers could be even higher.

The worst-hit area remains the Thunag subdivision in Mandi district, where several roads are still blocked and essential services have been severely disrupted. Relief and rescue efforts are underway.

A red alert has been issued for the region by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with heavy rainfall expected to continue until July 7.
