Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War, as the country marked the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday.
In a message shared in Punjabi, Mann said, “We salute the valour and sacrifice of all the brave soldiers who wrote an unparalleled chapter of bravery in the 1999 Kargil War. Their spirit and courage will always be remembered.”
Mann also laid a wreath at the War Memorial located in Bougainvillea Garden and honored the memory of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Minister of Defence Services Welfare and Freedom Fighters Mohinder Bhagat also attended the ceremony.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to mark India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war. On this day in 1999, the Indian Army successfully concluded "Operation Vijay" after a nearly three-month-long battle in the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh.
