The Karnataka government has constituted a 16-member Quantum Task Force to steer the state's ambitions in quantum technology and position Karnataka as a national hub for research, innovation and industrial adoption in the sector.
The move follows a recent government order issued by the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology to implement the vision outlined in the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap, unveiled at the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit.
According to officials, the high-level body will provide policy direction, strategic guidance and institutional support for advancing quantum technology research, fostering innovation, supporting startups and encouraging industrial adoption across the state.
The task force will be chaired by Arindam Ghosh, JRD Tata Chair Professor and J C Bose National Fellow at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science. The Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, and the Managing Director of Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTEPS) will serve as Member Secretary.

The 16-member panel includes experts from academia, research institutions, the technology industry and senior government officials, reflecting the state's effort to build a collaborative ecosystem around emerging quantum technologies.
Officials said the committee will play a central role in shaping Karnataka's long-term quantum strategy, including planning and overseeing the development of advanced infrastructure and research facilities.
Among its key responsibilities will be the blueprinting and supervision of the proposed Quantum City in Hesaraghatta, a flagship project envisioned as the nucleus of India's future quantum ecosystem. The project is expected to bring together researchers, startups, industry leaders and educational institutions to accelerate innovation and commercial applications in the field.
The initiative comes as governments and industries worldwide invest heavily in quantum computing, communication and sensing technologies, which are expected to transform sectors ranging from cybersecurity and healthcare to manufacturing and finance.
By establishing the task force, Karnataka aims to strengthen its position as India's leading technology and innovation hub while creating an enabling environment for cutting-edge research and entrepreneurship in the rapidly evolving quantum sector.
