Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of gold ornaments worth ₹1.13 crore from the residence of Karnataka Housing Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, police said on Tuesday.

The incident was reported on April 15 at the minister’s house in Pulakeshinagar, following which a complaint was lodged at the Shivajinagar Police Station. According to officials, one of the accused is a distant relative of the minister’s family and was known to them.

In her complaint, the minister’s mother stated that gold jewellery—received as wedding gifts and accumulated through savings—had been stored in a cupboard in one of the rooms. Upon inspection, around 1.3 kg of gold ornaments were found missing. She noted that relatives frequently visited the house to assist her and expressed suspicion that one of them may have been involved in the theft.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case of house theft and launched an investigation from multiple angles. On April 16, officers detained a relative near a college in Govindapura. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to committing the crime with the help of an accomplice.

The second accused was later apprehended from Mathikere. During further interrogation, the duo revealed that they had pledged the stolen jewellery at shops in Mathikere and Kammagondanahalli.

Acting on this information, police recovered 759 grams of gold jewellery from a jewellery shop in Mathikere on April 20. The recovered items are estimated to be worth ₹1.13 crore. The accused have since been remanded to judicial custody, police added.
