The Centre has approved the purchase of green gram and sunflower in Karnataka at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the 2024-25 Kharif marketing season. It is being presented as a significant move to support farmers.
The MSP for both green gram and sunflower stands at ₹8,682 per tonne.
The state has been authorised to buy 13,210 tonnes of sunflower at the MSP.
It has been learnt that this development has come after a request made by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The step underscores the government’s focus on aiding farmers by ensuring they receive a fair price for their produce.
This intervention is being considered as a welcome move, especially for Karnataka’s farmers. It will go a long way in assuring them a stable income for their crops amidst fluctuating market prices.
