Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Friday that flood-affected Sikh religious sites, including Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, would be restored to their original condition.
Field Marshal Munir visited flood-affected areas of Punjab province, including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Narowal and Kartarpur, to review the flood situation and the ongoing rescue and relief efforts, according to a statement by the Pakistan army.
Pakistan's Punjab province has been reeling under severe floods for a week now, which has claimed 22 lives over the last 24 hours and affected about 1,700 villages.
Munir interacted with the affected Sikh community of the area, which thanked him for the services being extended by the civil administration and the army during the calamity. The local administration and army personnel had rescued around 150 officials and Sikh pilgrims stranded in floods after the overflowing Ravi submerged the entire complex of the Kartarpur corridor, including Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, on Wednesday.
