Rutba Showkat, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, has achieved a Guinness World Record by making 250 origami paper boats in an hour, setting a new world record in the art of paper folding.
Rutba is an expert martial arts player with 60 medals, including a gold medal to her name.
Rutba shared her excitement over this achievement. “I had been applying for this record for the past three years, and after two failed attempts, I finally achieved it. Alhamdulillah, hard work never disappoints,” she said.
She said her family had no idea about how she etched her name into the Guinness Book of World Records and that she wanted to surprise her family.
“My parents have always been my biggest supporters, encouraging me in both athletics and artistic pursuits. This international recognition is a proud moment for me and my entire family,” she said.

She also holds records in the India Book of Records and is a recipient of national-level awards.
Talking to reporters after receiving the award, she said, “Origami involves creating models by folding paper in different ways. I managed to make four boats per minute, which means one boat every 15 seconds. I was frustrated at times when results weren’t going my way, but I stayed confident and practiced very hard, and after three years, I have finally achieved my dream.”
Her official Guinness World Record certificate reads, “Rutba Showkat took part in a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™️ attempt. The most origami boats made in one hour is 250, achieved by Rutba Showkat (India) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India.”
