Jammu and Kashmir Secretary of Tourism Yasha Mudgal.

Jammu and Kashmir Secretary of Tourism Yasha Mudgal said on Tuesday that the Union Territory is showing a strong path of revival in tourism. The Kashmir Valley is witnessing a promising increase in the number of visitors and is on the verge of becoming a top choice destination for travellers across the country.

The credit also goes to the tourists who, despite the April 22 attack, are returning to the Valley with enthusiasm.

She said the Kashmir Valley will soon achieve pre-Pahalgam attack tourism numbers, as efforts from the government and stakeholders are showing encouraging signs.

Speaking on the sidelines of the tourism secretaries' conference being held in Srinagar, Mudgal told reporters that all states and Union Territories have come together for a major brainstorming session aimed at enhancing India’s tourism sector.

She said, “The ongoing conference is being organised with participation from all states and UTs of the country, with a strong message that J&K is a preferred destination — not just for leisure, but for all forms of tourism.”

The event, supported by the Ministry of Tourism (MOT), witnessed encouraging participation from the Union Tourism Minister and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

She added “It is the biggest event of the year for us,” she said, adding, “This sets the tone for the season ahead.” While responding to a query about the recent decline in the number of incoming tourists, Mudgal said, “It’s natural to see a slight slump after an incident, but thanks to the efforts of the Hon’ble LG and top government officials, tourists are coming back.”

However, she said the numbers are growing, and they are seeing encouraging signs; destinations like Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam are witnessing a good flow of tourists.

“Tourists are coming from all corners of the country. We are on the path of revival and will very soon match last year’s numbers,” she said.
