The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar (MeT) has forecasted snowfall over the higher reaches on October 28, while predicting dry weather conditions to prevail in the plains until November 3.
According to the latest forecast issued by the MeT Centre Srinagar, the weather from October 25 to 27 will remain partly cloudy and dry, offering favourable conditions for outdoor and agricultural activities.
It said that on October 28, generally cloudy weather with chances of light rain at a few places and snowfall over isolated higher reaches is expected across Jammu and Kashmir.
Thereafter, from October 29 to 31, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry and partly cloudy.
The MeT forecast further suggests that dry and partly cloudy conditions will continue through the first three days of November (November 1–3). The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to continue all agricultural operations as weather conditions remain largely favourable across the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, an early snowfall in the upper reaches of the Kashmir valley, including some of the famous tourist destinations such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg, has brought temperatures down by several degrees across the plains, marking an early winter arrival.
However, the snowfall has also brought cheer and happiness to scores of tourists who were seen enjoying the season’s first snow at Gulmarg’s meadow, Kongdoori, in north Kashmir.
Besides, Kashmir’s tourism industry, which was hit hard after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, hopes to see increased tourist footfall in the region owing to expectations of a better winter season this year.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also pinned his hopes on the winter season for tourism revival in the Kashmir valley.
