Kashmir tourism shows signs of revival: Union Minister

Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday that tourism in Kashmir is showing "signs of revival" after the April 22 Pahalgam attack. He lauded the Jammu and Kashmir administration and central government for confidence-building measures among the common people.

 

Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the tourism conclave in Srinagar, the Minister said that "Renewed efforts put in by the government of J&K and comprehensive support from the centre have enabled visitors to return to Kashmir."

 

He said, "Post the Pahalgam attack, tourism had shrunk due to fear; however, the way the UT administration has taken the lead, along with central government delegations and ministerial visits, as part of a strong confidence-building exercise is commendable.”

“We must proceed forward and bring back tourism to Kashmir, which has seen immense growth under the current leadership in the past five years,” he said.

 

Regarding the conclave organised by the UT administration, which was aimed at bringing tourism secretaries from across the country to Kashmir, with the main objectives of enabling these officials to carry the message of safety and revival back to their respective states, helping boost domestic tourism, and second, to work towards the Prime Minister’s vision of developing at least 50 iconic destinations across India of global standards.”

 

He concluded by saying, “It is important that we start thinking out of the box, promote and learn from one another, and explore how things could be improved in sectors of services and hospitality standards in Kashmir and beyond.”
