Kashmiri women donate gold jewelry, precious utensils for Iran

The donations, particularly in Budgam and Baramulla which include savings and valuables, are being organized in Shia-majority areas. The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi expressed profound gratitude over the gesture and said that Iran would never never forget this kind act.

Gold jewelry and other precious items donated by Kashmiri families for war hit Iran


In what can be seen as powerful display of solidarity woven with emotional outbursts and an unrelenting prayers for its success,  Kashmiri women are donating personal gold jewellery, copperware, and cash to support Iran during its ongoing war.

 

The donations, particularly in Budgam and Baramulla which include savings and valuables, are being organized in Shia-majority areas. The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi expressed profound gratitude, specifically highlighting a widow's donation of a 28-year-old memory of her husband. A middle aged woman Shamina while converging at the outlet where donated stuff was collected in Srinagar, reflected her pain in tears.

 

She immediately took out her golden ear rings and handed it over to the person on shop. “ These items are nothing … we can give ourselves for the cause of  Iran”, she said as she burst into tears while holding hands together for the impromptu gesture of prayers for what she asked for the ‘success’ of Iran against its enemies. Like Shamima there are hundreds of women from different parts of Kashmir who have instantly offered to donate their precious jewelry for the war hit Iran. 

 

For the last few days post Eid festival, people from all walks of life are contributing, including children, with women playing a key role in giving away gold jewelry and household items.Call it motivation, or the religious connect,  the donations are driven by deep religious and historical ties between the Kashmir community and Iran, acting as a humanitarian gesture during the conflict. Apart from gold jewelry, people have been donating generously precious metal utensils, household items and other usable things in day to day life. Some people were seen even selling their vehicles for generating donation amount which is reported to have run into around Rs 600 cr in just few days.

 

This gesture has not gone unnoticed or un acknowledged. There has been overwhelming response from Iran. The Iranian Embassy thanked the people of Kashmir on X, calling the donations "the greatest source of comfort" and promising that the "kindness will never be forgotten,"as per the media reports.

 

 Donations are collected through local initiatives, with plans to channel the aid through official relief organizations, including the Iranian Embassy. The act has garnered attention on social media and highlighted a strong emotional connection among local populations with the crisis.
