Suspect sketches released by the J&K Police

The Jammu and Kashmir police have released sketches of four terrorists last seen in the Dhoks of Malhar, Bani, and Seojdhar in Kathua district.

Kathua police said in a post on X that they have also announced a reward of ₹5 lakhs for each terrorist who provides actionable information. Anyone with credible information about terrorists will also be suitably rewarded.

On 8 July, five soldiers were killed and several others injured when terrorists targeted an army truck travelling through a village in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The attack in Badnota village in the Jammu region highlighted a troubling trend following a similar assault in Rajouri in December 2023, which claimed the lives of four soldiers.

This incident marks an increase in terrorist attacks on military personnel in the Union Territory, particularly in the Jammu region.

The July 8 attack occurred just 24 hours after eight individuals, including six terrorists, were killed in separate encounters in the Kulgam district of the Kashmir region.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his distress over the loss of five soldiers in the attack via his X account, stating: "I am deeply anguished at the loss of five of our brave Indian Army soldiers in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua (J&K).  My deepest condolences to the bereaved families; the nation stands firm with them in this difficult time.

“Counter-terrorist operations are underway, and our soldiers are determined to restore peace and order in the region. I pray for a swift recovery for those who sustained injuries in this heinous attack."

The attack has been widely condemned across all sections of society. While opposition leaders have extended their condolences, they have also criticised the BJP government for its perceived inefficiency in addressing terrorism in Jammu.
