BRS MLC K Kavitha, along with other party leaders, staged a protest at the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday, wearing garlands made of red chillies.
The demonstration was aimed at demanding a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹25,000 per quintal for chilli farmers.
The protestors highlighted that chilli cultivation in Telangana had dropped from 400,000 acres last season to 240,000 acres this year due to falling prices. The BRS urged the government to set a fixed MSP of ₹25,000 and ensure procurement through Nafed and Markfed. Party members also called on the Spices Board to classify chilli as a food crop.
Earlier, on 15 March, K Kavitha led a protest outside the Telangana Legislative Council, demanding an MSP of ₹15,000 per quintal for turmeric farmers. Holding placards and raising slogans, the demonstrators voiced concerns over the financial struggles faced by turmeric growers.

Speaking to the media, Kavitha criticised the lack of government support for farmers, stating, “Turmeric farmers have been suffering for quite some time. The minimum support price has not been fixed by either the central or state government. Farmers across Telangana are struggling.”
She also accused the Congress-led state government of failing to honour its election promises. “The Congress had pledged ₹12,000 as MSP during the elections. We are demanding ₹15,000 for turmeric farmers,” she said.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took a jibe at BRS leader Harish Rao for referring to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) as the “father of Telangana.”
“For whom is KCR the father of the nation? Will this so-called father of Telangana wake up without the smell of liquor?” Reddy said at a public meeting in Shivunipalle, Station Ghanpur Assembly Constituency.
He further asserted that figures such as Konda Laxman Bapuji and Professor Jayashankar were the true architects of Telangana’s statehood. “A man who looted lakhs of crores, is addicted to liquor, and has drained the blood of Telangana’s people cannot be called the father of Telangana,” he added.
