In a twist to the ongoing phone-tapping investigation, suspended Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha has broken ranks with her family, publicly criticising her brother KT Rama Rao for his defensive stance toward their father, K Chandrasekhar Rao. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Kavitha dismissed KTR’s claims that the SIT’s questioning of KCR was "atrocious," reminding him that no one — not even a former Chief Minister — is above the law.

"KTR spoke as if summoning someone for examination is a crime," she observed. "When you are in public life, you have to face the consequences of your actions." Kavitha, who has herself faced the Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case, argued that instead of crying foul, the BRS leadership should be cooperating with investigators to bring the matter to a transparent close. She even suggested that the party needs to do some soul-searching to figure out why they’ve landed in this legal mess in the first place.

However, her support for the investigation came with a heavy dose of skepticism toward the ruling Congress government. In what seemed like a dig at her cousin T Harish Rao, Kavitha alleged that "match-fixing" might have happened behind the scenes between some BRS leaders and the Congress. She voiced concerns that the Revanth Reddy government is only making noise about the phone-tapping case to win points before the February 11 municipal elections and has no real intention of finishing the probe.

The fallout between Kavitha and the BRS high command has been visible since her suspension in September 2025, which followed her public accusations that Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar were damaging KCR’s legacy over the Kaleshwaram project. Since then, she has stayed active through her cultural organisation, Telangana Jagruti, but these latest comments mark her most direct political attack on her brother’s leadership style to date.

Kavitha also used the opportunity to lean into a broader critique of the state government, claiming that the Congress’s recent investment MoUs are "fake." She alleged that many of the companies the government is boasting about don’t even have basic websites. While she might be an outcast from her father's party, Kavitha is clearly positioning herself as a sharp-tongued critic of both the BRS status quo and the Congress administration.
