Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLCs staged a protest at the Telangana Legislative Council today to demand the fulfilment of promises made by the Congress government during the general elections.
One key promise, according to the BRS, was providing 10 grams of gold to eligible women for their marriage under the Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme.
The protesting MLCs were seen holding gold bricks inscribed with "10 Grams Gold" in Telugu, Hindi, and English. BRS MLC K Kavitha, who was present at the protest, criticised the Congress government for neglecting its election promises.

Speaking to the media, Kavitha reminded Congress of the guarantees made by the party, particularly by Sonia Gandhi.
She said, “During the general election, Congress, especially Sonia Gandhi, promised six guarantees to the people of Telangana. One of them was to provide 10 grams of gold to young women getting married, along with a ₹1 lakh cheque under the Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme, which was introduced by the BRS government.”
Kavitha expressed frustration, stating that the Congress government had ignored the promise after coming to power. She added, “Despite these guarantees, Congress has completely overlooked this promise. We demand that Sonia Gandhi come to Telangana and instruct her government to fulfil this promise.”
In addition to the protest, Kavitha also spoke about the BRS party’s stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill. She said that the party would oppose the bill in Parliament. Kavitha reiterated the BRS's support for the Muslim community, acknowledging their role in the Telangana movement.
