The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Tuesday said it would not engage in negotiations with the Union government till activist Sonam Wangchuk and others arrested after the protests are released.
It said there must be a judicial probe ordered into the firing that killed four people in Leh on September 24.
During his media interaction on Tuesday, KDA co-chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai also demanded a judicial inquiry into the firing by the security forces during a shutdown in Leh on September 24.
Karbalai said, “We are constantly in touch with Apex Body Leh … We will not participate in the talks with the Centre till Sonam Wangchuk is released, arrests are stopped, those arrested are released, and a judicial probe is ordered.”
The representative body dismisses the allegations of the UT administration and the MHA, and says they want to tell them, “Wangchuk is a hero of the country and should be immediately released,” Karbalai said.
The KDA also condemned the growing hate against the Ladakhis, being called “anti-nationals” by certain people.
In a strong-worded response to certain members of the Government of India, Karbalai said, “We don’t need a certificate from anyone. We have sacrificed our lives for the country. Stop portraying Ladakhis as anti-national.”
Meanwhile, Ladakh MP Mohmad Haneefa also said the locals were upset with the denunciatory term being used for them.
The KDA expressed strong support for the decision of the Leh Apex Body, which also rejected the talks with the Centre on Monday over the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk under the NSA.
The NSA is invoked against the individuals and entities posing a security risk, promoting secessionism, and posing a threat to the sovereignty of the country.
LAB chairman, Thupstan Chhewang, and co-chairman, Chering Dorjay, said the restoration of a “conducive atmosphere” in Ladakh was necessary before resuming dialogue.
