The pilgrimage to Kedarnath resumed on Saturday after being halted for a few days due to bad weather. A group of pilgrims was allowed to move from Sonprayag to Kedarnath via Gaurikund as the pedestrian route became partially walkable, said Rudraprayag SP Akshay Prahlad Konde.
However, the main highway between Sonprayag and Gaurikund is still closed due to landslides. The PWD is working to clear the route.
Until the highway is restored, devotees will have to walk 22 km to reach the Kedarnath temple.
The road route was shut on July 30 after a landslide hit the Mankutiya sliding zone. Since then, only returning pilgrims have been brought back using an alternate path with help from security forces.
Konde added that in case it rains again, movement will be stopped to ensure safety. He also advised pilgrims to check the weather forecast before starting their journey.
