Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has filed his nomination for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections from the New Delhi constituency.

In his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Kejriwal disclosed assets valued at ₹1.73 crore, emphasising his modest lifestyle with no ownership of a car or house.

The affidavit reveals Kejriwal’s movable assets are worth ₹3.46 lakh, comprising ₹2.96 lakh in bank savings and ₹50,000 in cash.

His immovable property—a flat in Ghaziabad—is valued at ₹1.7 crore. Kejriwal has no investments in fixed deposits, shares, mutual funds, or insurance policies.

Kejriwal’s affidavit also highlights a sharp decline in his annual income, which dropped from ₹44.90 lakh in 2020 to ₹7.21 lakh in the financial year 2023-24. His income primarily stems from his salary as an MLA.

Meanwhile, Sunita Kejriwal, his wife and a retired government official, declared total assets worth ₹2.5 crore. Her movable assets include ₹1 crore, comprising 320 grams of gold valued at ₹25 lakh and one kilogram of silver worth ₹92,000.

Sunita’s immovable assets, including a house in Gurugram, are valued at ₹1.5 crore. Her annual income of ₹14.10 lakh, derived from her pension, is twice that of her husband.

Together, the couple’s net worth stands at ₹4.23 crore, marking a steady rise compared to ₹3.4 crore in 2020 and ₹2.1 crore in 2015. The affidavit also disclosed that Kejriwal has 14 pending criminal cases against him.

Ahead of filing his nomination, Kejriwal and his wife visited Hanuman and Valmiki temples in the city to offer prayers. Addressing supporters, he urged voters to focus on his government’s accomplishments rather than political rhetoric.

Kejriwal, who has represented the New Delhi constituency since 2013, faces a tough electoral battle on 5 February against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. The results will be declared on 8 February.
