AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday met jailed Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora at 2 pm in Gurugram. Sanjeev Arora is currently lodged in Bhondsi District Jail in Gurugram.
Earlier on May 18, a Gurugram sessions court sent AAP leader Sanjeev Arora to two weeks of judicial custody after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.
Arora’s lawyer Arjun Diwan said the court accepted the ED’s request for judicial custody and fixed the next hearing for June 1. “During today’s court hearing, the ED moved an application seeking judicial custody… The court has remanded him to judicial custody. The next hearing is on June 1,” he said.
A Gurugram court had earlier sent the AAP leader to seven days of ED custody. He was arrested in Chandigarh on May 9 in a case linked to alleged fraudulent GST transactions of over Rs 100 crore.
Arora was arrested after a day-long search at four of his premises, including his residence, associated entities, and an office of Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL), which is also under investigation.
The ED said the case is based on an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) filed on May 5 this year. During the probe, the ED said HSRL is “beneficially owned and controlled” by Sanjeev Arora and his family. It added that his son Kavya Arora is the Managing Director, along with Hemant Sood, Chander Sekhar, Findoc Finvest Pvt Ltd and others.
The ED further said HSRL sold mobile phones worth Rs 157.12 crore in FY 2023–24 to several local and overseas entities. It alleged that Sanjeev Arora, as Chairman and Managing Director of HSRL, was responsible for running the company during the alleged illegal transactions.
