The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has suspended a probationary teacher after a video of her making derogatory remarks about Bihar and its people went viral on social media. The suspension was announced as per the provisions of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
Teacher's remarks spark outrage
Deepali, a primary teacher on probation at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jehanabad district, was heard making objectionable and abusive comments about Bihar in a viral video. Although the authenticity of the footage has not been independently verified by Hindustan Times, the content of the video has caused widespread outrage.
In the video, Deepali expressed dissatisfaction with her posting in Bihar, stating that she had hoped to be placed elsewhere.
She lamented, “There are a lot of Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country where I could have been posted. People don’t like the Kolkata region that much, but I was ready for that as well. West Bengal is fine, no problem with that. My friend has been posted in Darjeeling—can you imagine? One got Silchar in the Northeast—wow! Another friend got posted in Bangalore. But what was their enmity with me? They gave me a posting in India’s worst region.”

In another clip, she used offensive language to describe Bihar’s condition, stating, “I am not kidding, the situation of Bihar is f*** up. It is not even hyped up, it is f*** up. And me being here, I can see it every day. People have no civic sense.”
KVS takes disciplinary action
Following the circulation of the video and the subsequent public backlash, KVS took swift action against the teacher. In an official statement, the organization confirmed that Deepali has been suspended with immediate effect.
“As per the provisions of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Deepali, the primary teacher on probation, posted at KVS (Jehanabad), is suspended with immediate effect. She will report to KVS, Mashrakh, in Saran district,” the KVS statement read, as reported.

Political leaders react
The incident drew sharp criticism from political leaders, particularly from Bihar’s Lok Sabha MP Shambhavi, who represents Samastipur. She condemned the teacher’s remarks, stating, “Such statements are highly inappropriate, unacceptable, and unbecoming of an educator who is responsible for imparting knowledge and values to students.”
After the suspension was announced, the MP expressed her gratitude to KVS for taking prompt action. She tweeted, “Teacher Deepali, who used abusive language against Bihar, has been suspended with immediate effect. My heartfelt thanks to @KVS_HQ for taking prompt cognizance.”
Public backlash and debate
The incident has ignited a broader discussion on social media about prejudices against certain regions in India and the responsibility of educators to uphold ethical conduct. While some have criticised Deepali’s statements as offensive and disrespectful, others have debated the broader issues of workplace dissatisfaction and regional biases in job postings.
With her suspension in effect, KVS has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and discipline among its teaching staff, ensuring that educators adhere to ethical standards in both personal and professional conduct.
