Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has condemned a recent incident near the home of BJP leader Sobha Surendran in Thrissur, Kerala. Firecrackers were allegedly burst close to her residence, raising serious concerns about safety. Chandrasekhar called it a “bomb attack attempt” and strongly criticised the act.
In a statement, he said Sobha Surendran is a respected senior leader and popular among Malayalis. He added that neither she nor the BJP would be intimidated by such acts. The BJP has demanded a swift and impartial investigation into the matter.
Chandrasekhar urged Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, who also serves as the Home Minister, to act immediately. He asked for the arrest of those involved, regardless of their political background, whether from the Congress or CPM.
He also questioned the Chief Minister’s ability to maintain law and order in the state. “If he cannot do the job properly, Kerala needs a full-time Home Minister,” he said.

Tension gripped the Ayyanthol area of Thrissur on Friday night after an explosive device was thrown at a house near the residence of BJP State Vice President Shobha Surendran. The incident took place around 10:30 pm, triggering a loud blast that alarmed locals.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing four people on a motorbike near the site just before the explosion. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed as part of an ongoing investigation led by the Thrissur City Police Commissioner.
Shobha Surendran, who was at home when the blast occurred, told the media she was jolted awake by a terrifying sound at around 10:44 p.m. She urged the police to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
According to a report, she also said the road near her house is often busy with traffic, making it harder to trace the attackers’ vehicle.
Police believe the explosive may have been thrown at the wrong house, with the attackers possibly intending to target Surendran’s residence. An investigation is underway, and local residents have mentioned seeing a suspicious vehicle in the area that night.
