Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday. He engaged with senior members of the Union Government to advocate for critical state needs, ranging from disaster relief funding to fiscal concerns and major infrastructure projects. On Friday, Chief Minister Vijayan met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating he had "requested the urgent release of the full ₹2,221.03 crore NDRF grant for the Wayanad landslide reconstruction."
He also urged for the immediate approval to establish AIIMS at Kinaloor, Kozhikode, and sought relief from what he termed as "punitive cuts imposed on Kerala's borrowing limits." He confirmed that he "submitted a detailed memorandum outlining these concerns."
The Chief Minister’s visit commenced on Thursday with a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The primary focus was Kerala’s strained fiscal situation.
Kerala CM also met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He outlined key proposals to strengthen Kerala's internal security and development. Vijayan underscored the need for enhanced coastal and women's safety, better forensic infrastructure, and the modernisation of emergency services. He also requested a review of the decision to remove Kannur and Wayanad from the list of LWE (Left-Wing Extremism)-affected districts.
Vijayan held a meeting" with Union Health Minister JP Nadda and reiterated the long-standing demand for AIIMS and proposed the establishment of a National Institute for Geriatric Care, citing Kerala's ageing population and its leading position in healthcare provision.
Finally, the Chief Minister met with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss key infrastructure projects. He urged the Centre to expedite the NH-66 project, and sanctioning other vital corridors deemed essential for the state’s development.
