The Congress leadership has fiercely condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, which left a local doctor and six labourers dead.

The attack occurred at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, when suspected militants opened fire on the workers returning to their camp in Gund, Ganderbal.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the targeted killings.

"We strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal, where several construction workers and a doctor have been killed,” Kharge said.

Condemning the violence, he added, "Such inhumane and nefarious targeted killings shall not deter India from building important infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir."

He also extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. “We share the angst in the families of victims,” Kharge added.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined Kharge in condemning the attack.

Writing in Hindi on social media platform X, Priyanka stated, "The killing of civilians in a cowardly terrorist attack in Ganderbal is highly condemnable. Acts like killing innocent civilians and spreading violence and terror among the general public are crimes against humanity. The whole country is united against this."

"Deepest condolences to the bereaved families, and I wish the injured an early recovery,” she added.

The attackers, believed to be two in number, remain at large despite a manhunt by security forces, who have been given a free hand to neutralise them.

The area remains under tight security as forces intensify search operations.
