All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge will address party workers and supporters at the mega rally in Kohima on October 7

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee will stage a mega rally in Kohima on October 7, with All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge set to address party workers and supporters at the Naga Solidarity Park.

Announcing the programme, state Congress president and Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, said the rally will focus on the themes of ‘Save democracy, Save secularism, and Save Nagaland’. Key concerns such as youth employment, entrepreneurship, governance and connectivity will also be spotlighted.

Senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary, KC Venugopal, and Nagaland in-charge, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, are scheduled to accompany Kharge during the event.

Following the rally, Congress leaders will also hold closed-door meetings with the Political Affairs Committee, district Congress presidents and senior party functionaries to chalk out a roadmap for Nagaland and the wider North-east in the run-up to the 2028 general elections.

Jamir said the party expects over 10,000 participants to show up at the rally, adding that leaders and members of other political groups may also join, since the issues being raised “transcend party lines.”

Commenting on the proposed merger of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Jamir dismissed its significance. “It is just regional parties putting all in one basket. It will not have much impact on Nagaland’s political dynamics,” he remarked.

Party insiders said the upcoming rally marks a significant show of strength for the Congress in Nagaland as it seeks to rebuild its base in the state while positioning itself as a key player in the Northeast political landscape.
