As the Police investigations are underway in the chilling crime in Delhi which has sent shockwaves across NCR, shocking details are emerging about the accused who committed rape-murder of a civil servant's daughter in South Delhi's posh neighbourhood Kailash Hills. An addict to the core in online gambling, he is being seen as a psychopath having a history of aggressive behavior, exhibiting psychopathic tendencies.
In less than 12 hours he is reported to have committed two crimes, first raping wife of his acquaintance in Alwar Rajasthan. He allegedly strangled and threatened her before fleeing around 11 pm, warning her against reporting the crime. An FIR was later registered based on the survivor’s complaint. The next morning, Meena travelled nearly 200 km to Delhi and entered a residential society in south-east Delhi’s Kailash Hills at around 6:30 am.
Delhi Police say Rahul Meena, accused of raping and murdering an IRS officer’s daughter, was a former domestic help with a severe online gambling addiction and debts of about ₹7 lakh. Investigators allege he committed two sexual assaults within 12 hours, targeting his former employer’s home for robbery after losing heavily in betting. His familiarity with the house and desperation for money are seen as key factors in the crime’s planning and execution.
He entered the house he previously worked as a help, by breaking open a portion of the roof, an area he might have already been aware of, attacked the 22-year old civil services aspirant when she refused to give him money he asked for. He is said to have dragged her the distance upto the biometric locker in the house forcing to open the digital safe.
In what is prompting the investigators to see him as a psychopath is the drastic change in his behavioral pattern he developed over the year for his lust for gambling. His journey as a young man has been from that of bright student to debt-ridden suspect which turned him violent .Rahul was once praised for scoring 90% in Class 12 but later became addicted to online games like Teen Patti and Ludo, leading to mounting debts of about ₹7 lakh. He also used to bet on other apps as well.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have recovered more than Rs 1 lakh in cash and stolen jewellery from Meena. The recovery was made from a hotel room in Dwarka, where he had been staying after the crime. Police said he paid the hotel rent using money stolen from the victim’s house. During interrogation, Meena admitted to two rape cases so far.
