Jan Suraj party Supremo Prashant Kishor has vowed to abolish Bihar’s contentious liquor ban within an hour of coming to power.
Speaking ahead of his party's foundation day on October 2, Kishor made this bold declaration, adding that his team has been preparing for this for the past two years.
“There’s no need for any special preparation for the 2nd (October). If the Jan Suraj government is formed, we will end the liquor ban within one hour,” Kishor stated.
The prohibition, implemented under the Nitish Kumar government, has been criticised for failing to curb illegal liquor trade and consumption in the state.
Kishor also commented on the political rivalry between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.
When asked about Yadav's ongoing yatra, Kishor responded, “My best wishes to him. At least he has come out of the house and is going among the public.”
However, Kishor did not shy away from criticising both leaders, remarking that their political reigns have damaged Bihar.
In response to Yadav's claim that Nitish Kumar apologised with folded hands for rejoining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Kishor quipped, “This issue is between Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav. It doesn’t matter who apologised to whom; both have harmed Bihar. People have seen them for 30 years. We are urging them to leave Bihar.”
In a sharp critique of Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Kishor questioned his capacity to lead the state's development.
“A 9th-class dropout is showing the way to Bihar’s future,” Kishor remarked, attacking Yadav’s educational background.
He pointed out that Yadav’s only claim to leadership stems from his family ties, being the son of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Kishor went on to suggest that Yadav lacks understanding of basic economic concepts, saying, “He doesn’t know the difference between GDP and GDP growth, yet he claims to know how Bihar will improve.”
Kishor called on Yadav to prove himself through his actions rather than rely on his lineage.
