Officials said terrorists are believed to be trapped inside a cave on a mountain cliff in the Bhagna forest of the Dool area, some 25 kilometres from Kishtwar town.

 

According to officials, two top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, namely Riyaz Ahmad and Mudassar Hazari, are reportedly trapped at the site. Both of them have been active for the past eight years in the region. Both Hizb terrorist carry a cash bounty of Rs 10 Lakh each.

 

The search operation in the forest belt began early Sunday following specific intelligence about the presence of these terrorists in the area.

 

Officials said the hiding terrorists opened fire upon noticing the approaching forces, triggering a fierce gunfight. Intermittent exchange of fire was reported twice more during the day.

 

The security forces have tightened the cordon and search operation by rushing reinforcements, including CRPF, Para Commandos, and police personnel.

 

Drones and helicopters have also been pressed into service to track down the hiding terrorists in the area. Officials said the firing from the cave was last reported on Sunday evening. The cave is believed to be deep, and security forces suspect that the terrorists had managed to take shelter inside.
