The Kishtwar district administration on Thursday issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, flash floods and landslides till July 5. Residents, especially those living near rivers and other vulnerable areas, have been asked to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
As per the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner's Office, the district is expected to witness generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms at many places. Some areas may also receive heavy rain, short spells of intense showers and strong winds.
The administration warned that the prevailing weather could lead to flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable locations across the district. People living near rivers, streams and nallahs have been advised to avoid such areas until the weather improves. The administration has urged residents to stay cautious and follow all safety advisories.
All line departments, including Revenue, Public Works, Mechanical Engineering, Power, Jal Shakti, Health and Medical Education, Irrigation and Flood Control, NHIDCL and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), have been directed to remain on alert and be ready to respond to any emergency.
The advisory said field officials have been instructed to stay prepared and provide immediate assistance wherever needed. Tehsildars have also been asked to promptly report any loss of life or damage to property.
The administration said the District Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner's Office is operating round the clock to handle emergencies and provide assistance.
It also issued emergency helpline numbers and asked residents to contact the authorities if they require help during the adverse weather.
